Planning a wedding as a couple that works at high tech: A couple’s perspective đź’Ť

As a couple deeply immersed in their jobs in tech field, me and my (now I can say) husband found striking similarities between planning our wedding and navigating the tech industry. Here’s my take:

1. Task managing:

In our work routines we use Jira to followup on our daily tasks, so it is only natural that for our wedding we looked for a similar solution, we decided on Notion, specifically using their database. We opened tickets for every task we had to do from buying the dress to tracking the packages for the dance floor decorations. If it didn’t have an open ticket it didn’t happen.

2. Project Management:

Just like in our work life projects, planning a wedding requires meticulous project management skills. From setting timelines to coordinating with vendors, our ability to manage tasks efficiently has been invaluable. But also realising that hiring an external project manager (wedding coordinator) is essential so we can focus on the production side (the wedding itself).

3. Problem-Solving:

Techy environments often throw unexpected challenges our way that forces us to learn new technologies, and so does wedding planning. Being adept problem-solvers, we tackle issues head-on, finding creative solutions to ensure everything runs smoothly and a lot of the times to DIY solutions ourselves.

4. Collaborations:

Collaboration is key in both realms. Just as we collaborate with other teams on work projects, we collaborate with family, friends and vendors to bring our wedding vision to life. One of our main preference was to include as many  local businesses as possible so we could support our community.

5. Adaptability:

Flexibility is crucial, whether adapting to changing tech trends or unforeseen wedding hiccups and overcoming them. Our ability to pivot and adapt ensures we stay on track, no matter what.

6. Celebrating Success:

Just as we celebrate milestones in our work projects, we’re excited to celebrate our union with loved ones. It’s all about cherishing the journey and the achievements along the way. There is nothing more satisfying than moving a task from “in progress” to “done”.

7. The Exit:

The honeymoon is basically an exit party!

In the end, whether in our work places or wedding planning, it’s the combination of strategy, teamwork, and a dash of innovation that leads to a successful outcome. Here’s to love, technology, and the beautiful journey ahead! 💖🚀
